Shore Side Dentistry Covid-19 New Year’s Update

As we welcome the dawn of the New Year, 2021, I would like to take this opportunity to share how we are managing at Shore Side Dentistry with our provision of dental care during the Covid-19 pandemic. I would like to address the province-wide shut down that has been in effect since December 26. It has been made very clear by the Chief Medical officer of Health, our Minister of Health and the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario that this does not alter the scope of care that dentists and hygienists are permitted to provide. We will continue to follow the guidelines established by the Royal College for managing infection risks during in-person dental care.

Our profession has always been at the forefront with infection control and management of patients that present with potential infectious disease. Specifically, Covid-19 has brought new guidelines for us that has stepped up our level of infection control. Many of you have already seen, since we reopened officially on June 9, the procedural, structural and infrastructure changes that have been put in place to keep everybody safe when entering and treating patients in our dental office. Since the beginning of Covid-19, there is not one episode of infection traced to 28,000 dental offices across Canada, an exceptional but not surprising feat. I would like to personally thank all of our patients and staff for the strong support and kind words during closure and after re-opening in June.

There will be some changes as far as hygiene staff are concerned. Carmen, our long-time hygienist will be moving West with her family in the new year. Elbe, who has been with us for over 10 years, will be in the office on a full-time basis. Elbe brings a gentle and calming approach to the delivery of her care. Maryam is joining our office in January and will be providing hygiene on Thursdays. She brings experience and enthusiasm in general dentistry and periodontics, which provides great balance for our practice and patients. Irina will continue to deliver hygiene on Monday through Wednesday.

I am very grateful for the support of both of my patients and staff of Shore Side Dentistry through these challenging times. Truly, we will collectively get through this period; and, learn to grow and be stronger with our approach to delivering the finest quality dental care in a safe manner.

In closing, on behalf of Dr. Christine Liu and Dr. Tina Kokosis, may you and your family stay safe and have a wonderful start to the New Year. Let’s use this opportunity to take care of your oral health and allow us to help you in that goal.

Warm regards,

Dr. Peter A Taylor
