All emergencies, by definition, happen unexpectedly. Dental emergencies are no different. In addition to causing discomfort and tooth pain to you, a dental emergency can cause a large amount of stress that can sometimes be tough to handle for anyone. We understand this and take urgent care of your emergency needs by accommodating you in our schedule to the full extent possible.

Our dental office has skilled dentists and support staff who are trained to handle dental emergencies.

Some of the things considered dental emergencies are:

– Sharp continuous pain

– Abscesses

– Injuries to the mouth

– A broken or chipped tooth

– An injury to the soft tissue in the mouth

What is sharp continuous pain

An acute pain that does not stop generally means that a dental nerve could be infected. Typically, as soon as the dental pain is relieved, this emergency requires a root canal treatment. The goal of root canal therapy is to save your tooth. In the root canal therapy procedure, your dentist will remove the infected pulp in the root area of your tooth to save your tooth.

Addressing Dental Abscesses Promptly

A dental abscess often caused by bacterial infection is an infection that results in the formation of puss in your gums. This puss can be a pink or yellowish coloured thick fluid. This puss can affect your teeth and gums, and if left untreated, could potentially affect your jaw and mouth. A dentist will perform incisions to drain the pus, clean the area, and then commence your treatment to help ensure that the abscess does not recur.

Lost Filling or Broken Restoration

An emergency could also come about on account of a lost filling or damaged crown, or denture. These events do not really need emergency treatment, as the health of the tooth may not be at risk. However, they have the potential to cause a lot of discomfort and inconvenience. We can generally try and accommodate you on the same day for an dental issues like this.

We will try and ensure that your discomfort is alleviated and that the chance of an infection setting in on the tooth that has lost its filling or crown, is eliminated.

Emergency Dental Care for Injuries

A major trauma to the head or face is a severe event, and we would recommend that you immediately visit the ER in a hospital closest to you before you visit a dentist, even if the damage appears to be only to the mouth area or to the teeth.

A trauma could result in a fracture, dislocation, loss of a tooth, or even loss of multiple teeth. This trauma to the face is a serious matter and deserves immediate attention. The treatment for this kind of injury is a combination of various treatment methods that our experienced dentists are proficient in handling.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out tooth is both very painful and very time sensitive in nature. If you are in an accident that results in a tooth being knocked out, try and call us immediately. There is a great need for urgency to get you seen by a qualified dentist. This urgency could help save your tooth!

Make sure that you locate the tooth that has been knocked out, rinse it thoroughly and try to reinsert it into the socket. If you are able to insert the tooth into its socket, then fold a piece of gauze and bite down on it gently to hold the knocked-out tooth in place.

If you can’t insert the tooth into the socket, then get a container of milk, drop the tooth into that container of milk and transport it to our dentist office in the milk container. The urgency to get to the office remains paramount. For if you can make it in time, the tooth could be saved.
