The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program that helps cover dental care for Canadian residents who do not have access to dental insurance and whose adjusted family net income is under $90,000. Based on the eligibility rules published by the Government of Canada, you may qualify if you:
The CDCP pays a percentage of the plan’s set fees for covered services. Whether you pay a co-payment depends on your adjusted family net income:
If your dentist’s fee is higher than the CDCP fee for a service, you may also pay the difference. Ask your dental office before treatment so you know what to expect.
The plan covers a range of services, including:
Some services need pre-approval. The full list of covered services is on the CDCP coverage page.
Dental offices decide whether to bill the CDCP directly, and some do this on a visit-by-visit basis. Before you book, ask the office whether they can bill the CDCP for your treatment and what you might pay out of pocket.
