Restorative & Implant Dentistry in Oakville

Implants, Crowns, Bridges and Dentures in One Office

Dental Implant Process | Shore Side dental Oakville

Restorative dentistry repairs or replaces damaged and missing teeth so you can chew, speak and smile comfortably again. At Shore Side Dentistry on Lakeshore Road East in downtown Oakville, Dr. Peter Taylor plans and restores implants, crowns, bridges and dentures, and Dr. Tina Kokosis, a certified specialist in periodontics, looks after the gums and bone that support them. Most care, from the first exam to the final tooth, happens in one office.

Ways We Restore Teeth

The right option depends on how many teeth are affected, the health of your gums and bone, and your goals. Your dentist will explain the choices that fit your situation.

Dental Implants

A titanium post replaces the tooth root and holds a crown, bridge or denture. An implant does not rely on the neighbouring teeth.

Crowns

A custom cap covers and protects a tooth that is cracked, heavily filled, worn or treated with a root canal.

Bridges

A bridge fills a gap with a false tooth anchored to the teeth or implants on either side.

Dentures

Complete or partial dentures replace several or all teeth and can be adjusted as your mouth changes over time.

Implant-Supported Dentures

A denture that clicks onto implants, giving more stability when eating and speaking than a denture alone.

Worn Tooth Repair

Teeth worn down by grinding, acid or hard brushing can be rebuilt with bonding, onlays or crowns.

Crowns and Bridges

A crown covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It is often recommended after a large filling, a crack, a root canal or heavy wear, to protect the tooth from breaking. Crowns can be made from porcelain, zirconia or other materials, chosen for strength and appearance.

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by attaching false teeth to crowns on the neighbouring teeth or to dental implants. A bridge can make sense when the teeth next to the gap already need crowns. When those teeth are healthy, an implant may avoid reshaping them. Our implant vs. bridge guide compares the two in detail.

We use digital X-rays and an iTero intraoral scanner to plan treatment, which in many cases replaces traditional impression trays.

How Treatment Is Planned

Restorative Dentistry FAQ

Restorative dentistry repairs or replaces damaged and missing teeth. It includes fillings, crowns, bridges, implants and dentures. The goal is comfortable chewing, clear speech and a natural-looking smile.

No. Dr. Peter Taylor is a general dentist whose practice focuses on restorative, implant and prosthetic dentistry. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics and teaches prosthodontics at Western University. If you need a certified specialist in prosthodontics, we can refer you.

Both can replace a missing tooth. An implant stands on its own and helps preserve the jawbone, while a bridge relies on the neighbouring teeth and is often completed sooner. Your dentist will check your bone, gums and the teeth beside the gap before recommending one.

Many crowns and bridges last for years, but how long depends on the material, your bite, grinding habits and home care. Regular checkups let us spot wear or decay at the edges early.

Cost depends on the number of teeth, the materials and whether gum or bone treatment is needed first. As a general range, not a quote, a dental implant with a crown is about $800 to more than $5,000. After an exam we give you an estimate and can help you check your insurance coverage.

Often, yes. In many cases implants can be placed so an existing or new denture clicks into place, which can make it more stable for eating and speaking. Your dentist will check whether your bone and gums can support implants. Read our implant-supported dentures guide to learn more.
